Common Enemy
Common Enemy is an acrylic painting on stretched canvas (16 × 20 inches) that captures a moment of uneasy alliance. A black cat and a watchful owl sit shoulder to shoulder, their expressions calm but unmistakably alert. Above them, a joyful French bulldog sails through the air—tongue out, eyes wide—unaware that its exuberance has made it the shared focus of irritation below.
Set against a textured blue background, the composition balances humor and tension, playfulness and restraint. The crisp outlines and layered brushwork give the figures a slightly street-art sensibility, while the detailed eyes anchor the emotional weight of the piece. Though the cat and owl are natural adversaries, their temporary unity speaks to a familiar truth: differences fade when a common distraction—or annoyance—appears.
Common Enemy is both whimsical and relatable, inviting viewers to smile first, then reflect on the strange alliances we form and the unspoken agreements that bring us together, if only for a moment.
